such a grossly underappreciated album.
it's hard to pick one song, but i'll say bloody cape.
welll i voted WGTB but since this is an awesome album (my fav along with ATF) the next songs would be Battle-axe, Deathblow, Lucky You, Bloody Cape, Lovers, AOAUE, Needless & Pins (no specific order).... but yeah, WGTB!!
great album but it could have been better...still appreciate it
lovers
Battle Axe
hexagram without a doubt.
WGTB with Hexagram a close 2n'd...
Over-rated album by people on this board. Like the band said, they got lazy with this album.
Anniversary is easily the best song on the album. WGTB, Needles and Pins, Minerva, and Lucky You would be close followers.
WGTB hands down.
Sometimes it's WGTB, sometimes it's Deathblow, but now it's Battle-axe. Deep shit.
i honestly cant really pick a favorite

for sure, good album, but this board makes it out to be their best, & it just isnt
Opinions are like assholes. So I guess you're an opinion.
hahaha and some people have real shitty assholes
well that's your asshole :D
my asshole is right
Moana has on my pick
Lovers
/end thread.
Deathblow, cocks
lucky you
Following up White Pony was no easy task. Let's face it: this album didn't surpass WP. However, it is chalk full of some incredible songs. Anniversary is one of the Deftones masterpieces. What other metal band can create such a tender, enthralling composition? Few come to mind. But to me the real gem of the album is WGTB. It's brutal and delicate at the same time. And the lyrics are top notch. I love Minerva too, such a beautiful song. Absolutely epic. Lastly, Hexagram is a real head trip. It's decades ahead of its time. How they came up with that song is beyond me. The rhythm, lyrics, time changes, and sequencing are progressive, riveting, and explosive. Yea it's a goooooooooood album!
Good? Great, I love every note on this CD. I've listened to it a million times. I would never disagree with anything anyone has said in this topic, everyone has their own opinion but I choose Needles and Pins. I love this song. Every time I hear it I know exactly what the lyrics are about and if you were in a relationship this volitile you would too.
LOL at this album being over-rated. White Pony is the over-rated Deftones album. In fact when I first joined this board, it seemed I was one of the few people who thought S/T was their best album. It's only recently that people have started to realise just how good it really is...
Battle-Axe and When Girls Telephone Boys.

I've been here almost four years now. In that time, I would say the ranking by the members would go something like this:
ATF>S/T>WP>Adrenaline>SNW
Mine is:
WP>Adrenaline>ATF>SNW>S/T
Neddles & Pins, WGTB and Battle Axe my favorites :D
Lovers and Needles :)
QuoteLovers and Needles
that is quite a deadly combo there lol
Battle-Axe, Lovers, Needles & Pins, Bloody Cape, Anniversary Of An Uninteresting Event, Minerva, When Girls Telephone Boys are the songs on S/T (with exception of Lovers unfortunately...) that I never skip.

choose one song if you can !
am i right ? :)
I love this album...
When girls telephone boys rocks ::)
tie with deathblow and battle axe with WGTB coming in 2nd
nice shot nebontha, good choice !
Yeah Hexagram's good too if I'm in the mood for it...a very well written song, but Chino should've toned down the screaming, just so that he doesn't damage his throat everytime they play it live lol... heaviest Deftones album opening track, ever

yeah that shit's lethal!
Hexagram was my pick. I've been listening to it quite alot lately.
my rate:
ATF > S/T > Adrenaline > WP > SNW (because of Pink cellphone)
from S/T i NEVER skip a song, NEVER!!! I wish Lovers would be on my CD... I would choose Lovers instead of WGTB but since its not in the album i have, i had to choose WGTB... but EVERY single song in THIS ALBUM is a jewel!
i love s/t so much. i just wish you and the members of deftones would realise this. lazy no way. depressing, lonely and dark yes.
maybe that's why i love it! depressing (well, not too much but still) and dark... plus i love the artwork on cd and booklet....
and ATF is FULL of Adrenaline.....
Voted for Lovers, but WGTB and N&P are very close in my book....
It varies over time but for quite a while now, Selftitled has been the album I come back to the most. I honestly love every single song on this album. I love Battle Axe the most though, and I've been listening to Needles and pins a lot, too.
My version of the album hasn't got Lovers on it though, I've got Lovers on the Hexagram single, along with Bloody cape. European versions, I'm guessing.
minerva

+1 from the United Kingdom
WGTB...i love the lyrics and the style in which he delivers them. Then Frank just takes the song to a whole other level, especially live.

Battleaxe, Bloody Cape, Moana, Minerva, Hexagram and then Lovers I think. though I like the album as a whole so the order can't be accurate.

yeah pls dont do that. I usually skip Lucky You and Moana tho.

I like Deathblow and Good Morning Beautiful the best. The whole album is incredible, but those are the two I listen to the most.
i dont remember that i skip any song of deftones.....
but i skip all korn ,lp, placebo and evanescence songs from my arch....

...but i voted WGTB, but it could have been Deathblow, Bloody Cape, any song!
is the hardest decision....
Battle-axe.
Despite ST being my least favourite album, I really like this song alot. The intro, Chinos voice and the lyrics, that I sometimes relate to.
Its a shame they dont play this song live anymore, I put it in my top 10 'tones tracks.
Bloody Cape. I love the songs where they switch from super heavy to smooth. The jazzy bassline in the verse and the 12 ton monster riff in the chorus and end just kick my ass everytime. I know lots of people don't like some of their songs where they go from heavy to chilled but I do. Rats! is one of my favourites off SNW for the same reason
is lucky you an underrated song?
love that song.
as the albums werkin title so thats what i call this album-2 the point- i think lovers the actual song (had it been on the album) would be the best song closely followed by needles ,minerva and battle
Lovers or Moana.
cant decide between Battle-Axe or Needles & Pins
??? Toughest record to pick from but if I had to I will go with Blood Cape. The lyrics can be so many things and very accurate as well. Columbus is m favorite theory of them all though...
The best song on self titled is every song on self titled.
Best motherfucking Deftones album.
The best song is Battle Axe
great album...my pick is Battle Axe
Battle Axe has been getting loads of plays on my Walkman recently.

Walkman...? like...cassettes? Yeahhh \m/ (if that's not what you're talking about, i'm just fucking old)
I love Battle Axe , Needles and Pins and WBTG
WGTB without a doubt.
This entire fucking album makes me sick it's so good. One of those albums that changed my life and helped move me in my career.
i vote on this and I forget is it Battle Axe or WGTB :D
i cant vote
battle axe is my very favorite song
yeah a mod should open the votes.
Hexagram
first Minerva than When Girls...
hexagram. it's my all time favorite deftones song so i had to pick it. after that, battle-axe has the biggest emotional impact on me.
Like Sing Blue Silver said, Battle-Axe has the biggest emotional connection for me, so that's my favorite, but at the same time, so is Deathblow. It reminds me of Riviere for some reason.
That's why I love Battle-Axe too.
The numbers so far look very expecting to me. No surprise. The whole record is good and I'm happy to see the previous non-believers digging it now too. It's the BEST!
Quote from: Vesanic on Oct 18, 2011, 11:47 AM...
100%. I don't do iPod's, haha
Although, I'm from the days of Cassette Walkman's. Gone are the days of winding your tape back when it gets chewed...
I still can't get over Steph's simple breakdown riff in WBTG. It's so meaty, like a ton of Jambon.

It still amazes me when people rant about how great WP is and how S/T is a piece of shit in comparison.
Personally I see S/T as the bands masterpiece and White Pony, even though still a GREAT album, not one of my favourite Deftones albums.
S/T's songs are deeper, more complex, darker, stranger, better.
I always felt there were too many Deftones fans who were fans ONLY because they like White Pony.
It's as if they wanted WP V2 so bandly that they just shut their mind off and didn't give anything that followed a chance.
I pity fans like this, they're missing out in a big way.
My vote goes to Bloody Cape.
The way it starts off with that beautiful, melancholic guitar tone and the nostalgic feel about it.
I also love the brutality and the originality of it and the breakdown at the end is the finest piece of art ever created by man.
I never get tired of hearing it and every time I do I seem to discover something new about it, like layers which peel back and reveal more underneath.
I also love Hexagram - Chino's screams still amaze me every time I listen to it, WGTB, Deathblow, Battle Axe, Needles and Pins, Minerva, Good Morning Beautiful, Lucky You, AOAUI and Moana to an almost identical level of fanaticism.

maybe i just overplayed white pony. i rarely ever listen to it anymore. it's not even in my top 3.
Real hard pick for me between Needles & Pins, or Battle-Axe... chose Needles because I like the lyrics more.
When girls telephone boys!
It is SO fucking hard to choose between Bloody Cape and Hexagram... So I felt a little better when I saw they were tied, I guess I'm not alone :P
I eventually went with Bloody Cape because of its personal lyrical meaning to me. I connected with it a little more than I wish I had at a particular point in my life, and has since become a bedrock for keeping myself away from settling.
Edit: Well I -WAS- going to go with Bloody Cape, until I noticed the poll was closed. So fuck it. But yeah... Bloody Cape.
I used to despise this album. When I first heard it, I skipped track after track and eventually cast it aside for a year or so. Then SNW came out and I didn't like that much and I began to lose faith. Even when DE came out I hated it. Now, DE is the only CD I own that I can listen to top to bottom without skipping a song. I like them all for the most part. But lately I've gotten bored of DE and I have already listened to ATF and WP enough to understand their awesomeness. In turn I decided to pop their S/T in this last week and I am blown away. I love the darkness and complexity of the songs. Deathblow is my favorite but they all have something to offer. I don't see myself going back to DE any time soon...
