simple question; what's your favorite decade in music?
as much as i love the 70's (zeppelin, the who, sabbath, crimson, etc), i'd have to go with the 90's.
so many amazing bands (and albums) spawned from that decade.
to name a few;
faith no more (angel dust)
pearl jam (ten, vs)
alice in chains (dirt, facelift)
deftones (adrenaline, around the fur)
incubus (science, make yourself)
counting crows( august and everything after)
melvins (stoner witch, houdini)
soundgarden (badmotorfinger, superunknown)
jeff buckley (grace)
dredg (leitmotif)
sublime (40oz, s/t)
etc.
90's ftw!
the 1970's.
sabbs
zepps
crimson
deep purple
frank zappa
iggy pop
to name just a few. but this decade seems to be also very interesting.
Any that had any heavy metal in it.
I think I'll go with two of them..
90's. many albums, some emo, post-hardcore bands..
and, can't figure out, 00's or the decade we're now living in.
it gave me much modern music, various post-rock albums (which now is my favourite genre),
post-hardcore, progressive rock..
hmm, i should've made this as a poll. hm.
90s or 00s. Can't really choose...
For all the bands you gave the 90s were indeed very great (add a few : pantera, sepultura, ratm, etc.), but god, there's so much great music from the 00s, with all the new "genres" (as gay as this is)...
So yeah, can't really decide but it's good to go from one to the other (btw, am listening at the Floyd while writing that... :P)
80's...I'm totally and 80's girl! But I like the early 90's too.
honestly, im going for the fifties and early sixties. all the doo-wop and girl groups were awesome. plus the king was just getting started
present
i'd have to say the present. i get bored with music quickly. i quess it's my own fault i'll become obsessed with something and then listen to it till i'm sick of it. so i'm always trying to find the next new (or at least new to me) band to blow me away, or a band i already like to release a new record to revive my interest.
90's hands down. I might be a bit biased but to add to the list of great 90's bands -
Primus
Refused
Radiohead
Mad Season
NIN
Portishead
Blind Melon
Type O Negative
Nirvana
Helmet
Clutch
Corrosion of Conformity
White Zombie
Mr Bungle
A bunch of Rappers in thier prime -
Tupac
Biggie
Dr Dre
The Fugees, yes the Fugees
Outkast (Their first 3 albums are classics)
Busta Rhymes
Nas
Wu-Tang
Gang Starr
etc, etc...

I loved outkast until i realized that most of their fans are backstreet boy white kid trend humping idiots. I still like them, but i only listen to them in private nowadays

The 80s, mainly on a count of thrash, hardcore, new wave and some other inroads in genres like electronic, industrial, etc. I would also extend that into the early 90s, grunge/groove metal era until about 1995.
HOWEVER the late 90s bar a few good bands (Deftones, Tool, etc) were awful.
I think music only became picking up and becoming a lot more creative again ca. 2000/2001. There is also much more diversity nowadays so the 00's would be my second choice.
i liked what the 80's gave us, but more of my favorite music is 90's music, although i do like the 50's and 60's vibes too.
90s
first part of
golden age (can we call 5 years or so an AGE?hm, oke) of shoegaze
loveless was released in 90s
souvlaki
dozens of other epic albums...
SHOEGAZING
i'm think i'm going with the 90's.
though the 70's are real close, and the 00's aren't looking so bad either.
this thread should be titled "your favorite musical decade for mainstream music"
Thanks for representing the Underground Az.
Every generation of music is eqaully great counting the birth of life and Minverva granting us music and insturments in Ancient times.
Lol I feel like I should be dropping acid to understand your train of thought.
I'd say my favorite is probably the current decade, i enjoy music from every other time, though... barring the 80s for the most part. lots and lots of crap came from that decade.

that's what i'm sayin!
what i love most about the 00's is definitely all that kickass post-metal...love that shit.
90s 80s 70s 60s
I can't just choose one decade, sorry. but if I absolutely HAD to, I guess I'd go for the 90's... grunge in general, faith no more, some good nu-metal and hardcore.
I absolutely love the 70's though (and last part of 60's), Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin being two of my all-time favorite bands.
and then we have all the awesome pop music from the 80's. and Faith No More's first albums which are some of their best.
90's i grew with all this "generation x" stuff
