Title: m night shyamalan
Post by: Variable on Jan 31, 2008, 02:54 PM
k so I know that I am a few years behind on this one.  But I really just discovered this guy.  I mean I saw the 6th sense when I was a kid and thought it was cool.  And I saw signs and....it was ok.  But I always heard the rest of his movies sucked, so I never watched them.  But the other day I watched "the village" and thought it was pure awesomness.  Then Unbreakable was recomended to me and I loved it too.  The man is an artist, thats for sure

Agreed, I enjoy everything he does.  His movies remind of old school Twilight Zone episodes.  Supposedly, he's got a new movie in the making about a virus or something.

I thought The Village was great and I fucking love Signs. then again, I'm a sucker for anything with aliens in it... but seriously, if you put the story of Signs to the side (which is what people usually don't like about it) you gotta admit that it's beautifully done. some of the scenes are amongst the most memorable I've ever seen.

the only movie of his that i thought sucked was what everyone here thinks was awesome.

i really disliked the village.i thought it was pure stupidness

all of his other movies are great though

i have this movie about him though, i haven't watched it yet but its called "the buried secrets of m night shyamalan". i got it for free from work so thats why i haven't watched it yet.

see thats why I never saw the village.  I just heard it was total crap.  I usually dont listen when people say that stuff.  Dont know why I did that time.  I just dont think what he does is always understood.  Not that I think it is mean to be particularly deep.  Just the way he films his movies makes them worth watching to me.  I could just see comic book frames when I was watching unbreakable.  That was really cool to me (and I dont even read comics)
Title: Re: m night shyamalan

I think the main reason why people dislike The Village is simply because of the plot twist at the end. no one expected it and it really changed the entire atmosphere of the movie. I think it was just too unconventional for people to get used to. they expected a fantasy movie but ended up with something completely different.
Title: Re: m night shyamalan
Post by: Variable on Feb 01, 2008, 03:33 PM
yeah but I LOVED that.  I mean it was all about how fucked up the real world is and how a group of people made their lives better by getting away from it all....or did they?

anyways.  It is just rare that I watch a movie and say "wow, that was art"  same goes with music and actual drawn or painted art.  I am just picky.  But I think the man tries to do something special, and is successful at it.  I like that.

anyways im not saying I would suck his cock (becaus indian men really are not my thing)  But I do have a bit of a man crush on him right now.  Im sure ill get over it sooner or later

the twist in the village was so fucking ridiculous. it was like they made the twist just "to make a twist".

this movie sucked so much.

It wasn't his best but I still thought it was good.  I figured it out pretty early except I was hoping the monster was real in the beginning.

The reason I didn't like it is partly the fault of advertisers.  It was marketed as a horror movie.  A scary movie so I went in expecting it.  Instead I got Adrien Brody acting as a retard during much of the movie, which was boring, and then a random twist thrown in at the end.

Maybe if the movie before the twist was any good, I would have enjoyed the twist, but the rest of the movie is bad.

I dont trust movie critics at all.

It was pretty good though.  Not the best movie I have ever seen.  But good.  It was pretty much what you would expect from a M Night Shyamalan movie.  Definitely worth seeing.

It was pretty much what you would expect from a M Night Shyamalan movie.

Then I definitely wont see it.  You should not look forward to a director's movie because he's going to give you the same thing over and over again.  Seriously M. Night has only one style.  He's a one trick pony. Why go see The Happening when I can go see one of his earlier movies again?
Title: Re: m night shyamalan
Post by: Variable on Jun 14, 2008, 07:41 PM
yeah I thought about that too.  Im not going to try to spoil the movie for you.  But its not EXACTLY like his other movies.  If I tell you any more, it will spoil it.  What I meant was that there was good acting, a little bit of cheezy humor ( not too much to ruin the movie ) , great cinematography that drew you into the film, believable characters, and it was about something that you may have never though of before ( I know I never thought of this happening ..........ohhh dam no pun intended)
What I meant was that I would not expect some crappy plot that is filled by action scenes and a hip soundtrack to cover up the bad acting and spray on tans from M Night.  I would expect a well done movie.  Thats all I meant

The twist is there is no twist. I know.  It's the grass or whatever.  Pretty much what I predicted just by watching the trailer.  I feel like that was enough of the movie for me to watch.  And I hear the dialogue is horrid.
Title: Re: m night shyamalan
Post by: Variable on Jun 15, 2008, 08:46 PM
maybe throw out a spoiler alert for those who want the movie to hold some suspence?  And I thought the dialogue was just fine.  One of my best friends texted me last night and said he thought this movie was a huge piece of shit.  So maybe im just the weirdo here

cinematography really has grown into an important aspect of movies for me in the last couple years.
it makes films so much better, and i'll agree with you that shyamalan has done a good job in that category. i actually plan on seeing this movie tomorrow too, finally

yeah a movie is way better when it can just draw you in.  I dont think most people really give enough thought to how hard it must be to do that.  I fell in love with the village in like the first 10 min before I even really had an idea where the movie was going to go.  I just loved the way it was done.  Same with unbreakable.  There were scenes of that movie that I could see coming right off the page of a comic.  It was amazing.

i loved unbreakable. but i didn't like the end. he finds out sammy jackson caused all the "accidents" looking for him. and then he walks away disgusted. he should have at least kicked him in the shins and shattered his legs. or taken a wheel of his chair so he couldn't get away. it all just climaxed to quick (thats what she said), all this big build up and then it just ends.

I just got back a couple hours ago from watching The Happening.

I'm not sure what I make of it yet :/

I like how it touched on how bees are disappearing in the beginning and my general opinion of what the hell M Night is going on about is that the plants are pissed off at people for messing the planet up [I don't mean that in a sarcastic way btw haha], and I definitely think the ending leaves it open for a sequel. But I doubt there will be one though and I don't think there should be one cos IMO leaving it as it is will just further emphasise what he's trying to get across... If that makes sense at all - it's 2 in the morning and I'm real tired  :)

i thought the perfromance of the leads was awful. wahlberg just seemed to have that wide-eyed naiveity thing going on at all times. it was the one thing i didnt like about the movie. and deschnel just seemed to open her eyes wide all the time. i thought they really should have acted a bit more...serious, if you know what i mean.
