ive been drinking nothing but newcastle for the past few months. but 33 bucks altogether for a case is pretty pricey. ( i live in the states, pennsylvania )
anybody know a good beer, but wouldnt cost me as much.. please dont name a beer if ur not used to drinking good beer. newcastle is pretty good shit, and i dont wanna anybody in here recommending coors or miller lite.
anchor porter (dark beer from san francisco. really good stuff)
guinness and kilkenny (duh!)
hoegaarden
well. the anchor porter caught my ear cause its from san fran and not an import. i wonder how much it runs, and if anywhere around here even carries it
wow awesome. i went on that anchor porter website. and they list what distributors you can find them at in your state. i have it in a place not too far from me. what kind of price do you think id be looking at on that
Anything from the deschutes brewery. Black Butte, Mirror Pond, Obsidian...
http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/Brews/default.aspx
It's what I drink when I want to take a break from Pabst. Mirror Pond is the shit.
Beer ain't just beer.. Do you mean Newcastle Brown Ale? If so then that's well, a brown ale. Same as you got bitter, lager and stout too.
Any beer I recommend though would most likely be pricey as it'd have to be an import.. European beers are the most drunk over here minus Bud I'd say.

wow you just got +10 cool points with me. I love anchor porter. One of the best dark beers made. I like anchor steam too.
but sorry fireal I can remember how much they cost. I like amber bock and shiner bock. The only reason I bring those up is because amber bock is made by michelob and I used to drink a lot of shiner bock and dont remember it costing me a lot.
But I dont know man im really bad with prices on beer. I always find it worth spending a few extra bucks for some good beer. I drank a lot of killians when I was home. Is that any cheaper?
funny u said that. i was thinking of switching back to killians irish red. but wasnt sure if it would hold up to newcastle
i really love newcastle. its sad its so pricey...
Killians > Newcastle imo. I like Newcastle but I think its really really overated. same with fat tire.
go with leinenkugel's honey weiss, either that or heineken, regular or light. i've been drinking those a lot lately and they're effin tasty

I like fat tire.
I like it ok. I just think its overrated. Lots of better beers out there
For whatever reason, I get a hangover from any beer that comes in a green bottle...Becks, Steinlarger, heineken.
New Zealand has some damn nice beers (Macs, Speights, export etc)...but thats not a lot of help
Weird. On leave I was hanging out with these girls we just met and they told me and my friend to bring some beer so we tried getting some of what we thought would be girly beer so we grabbed some heineken and becks. When we showed up they then informed us that for some reason a girl is never supposed to drink beer from a green bottle. I had never heard that but they were dead serious about it.
Ha! I always knew Marty was a girl.
well I dont like that shit either. Not because it makes me sick. I just dont really like it
But seriously.
Mirror Pond is the shit.
never had it
I know nothing about it other than it tasted pretty damn good.
was it light or dark?
Go for Special Brew if you can get it.

heinekin is just as expensive as newcastle, the point of the thread was to find a good beer thats much cheaper
heineken fucking sucks if u ask me.. its mad expensive and isnt that headie, if youve been drinking heinekin i highly recommend u switch to newcastle
Just bought some Anchor Porter today (fucking expensive in Denmark!). They're in the fridge now, getting nice and cold for tonight.
Yum yum.
can anybody help me on what a case 24. of anchor porter would cost
why don't you just go down to your local store and ask for anchor porter?

luckily, we don't have these kind of problems in europe. you enter the beverage market and there are all these tasty beers for reasonable prices.
Luckily I don't like beer that much, so I don't have that kind of problems either...
may i suggest Shiner Bock made in texas. i love that shit.

if you like pale beer, then rolling rock is really good.
drink budweiser
No thanks...
I don't understand why people actually drink that shit.
Yeah everyone and their mother know that Budweiser is what you piss when you drink real beer...
Blue Moon is new and its really selling well. Drink it with a lemon or orange slice like you would a lime with a corona... which i also would recommend...
Yuengling is good too, being from penn., i'm sure you already know about yuengling.

Whoa, I'm gonna start peeing in empty budweiser cans after having a few Mirror Ponds now...and resealing them somehow.
In other news, I discovered another good beer. Sierra Nevada. Slightly cheaper than Morror Pond and just as good, but in a different way.
I heard charles bukowski made all his money not by selling books, but by pissing in his left over bottles every morning when he woke, and putting the caps back on then selling them back to people on the streets of l.a. They said they've never gotten drunker, although it was a little sour.

I've been drinking quite a few Polish beers recently: Lech and Tyskie are nice and strong.
Also, been getting some Leffe in, but it's pretty expensive. :(
i drank this swedish beer today
(http://www.nilsoscar.se/_upload/se/produktbilder/Indian-Ale.jpg)
it was so good, it made my dick go hard.
lolz @ american beer.
america has some good beer. lost coast brews (great white, downtown brown) from humboldt? sierra nevada?
i don't see why people complain about beer so much. it's simple: when i want to drink and kick back, i buy good beer. when i want to get drunk, i buy cheaper, more plentiful beer. i also like coors so that helps too.
yeah, i usually only drink to get drunk, not to enjoy the beer. i still prefer imported over american though, i don't know why. i think it might be 'cause imported beers have cuter bottles and cans. :)
what other reason is there to drink then to get drunk

Don't know about the fun factor of the process but the end products I've tasted weren't good at all. I'm not so poor nor patient to brew my own beer.
About Newcastle, I've tasted it about 5 years ago and didn't like it then but maybe I should give it another chance since everyone's talking about it. I would recommend finnish beers (Lapin Kulta, Karhu, Koff etc.) but I think availability would be a problem in foreign countries.

Yeah, I think I'll have a Newcastle tomorrow (along with a case of other beer and a bottle of Jägermeister, naturally). I'm just so used to domestic beers that they've become a standard for me and I compare every other beer to them. Though that standard might differ a lot from other cultures.

guys. i didnt realize the arrogant bastard ale is brewed by the STONE brewing company
they have another beer thats even better than the arrogant bastard ale
its called. Stone IPA
an amazing IPA. with a FUCKLOAD of hops. and i believe the alcohol vol. is like 7.1
stone ipa might be my new favorite
newcastle is very easy to drink. so i would drink that with my friends when im chilling and trying to impress people
but stone ipa is definitely my personal choice right now. if you are in the states. do what you can to buy it. its really expensive about 37$ a case. but really worth it
its has a gargoyle on the case. its a green and white box.
http://www.stonebrew.com/ipa/
same brewery that makes the arrogant bastard ale
stone IPA is good but the stone ruination IPA is the best. arrogant bastadard is good too and it comes in a few different styles particularly oak'd and the double bastard. the stone russian imperial stout is nice when you want something darker. personally i dig IPA's a lot especially the imperial IPA's round 10% abv. or so. if you want something really nuts go for dogfish head 120 minute IPA - it's 20% alcohol!
other US based microbreweries id suggest are blue point (NY), ithaca brewing (NY), mcsorely's ale (NY), captain lawrence brewing (NY), dogfish head (DE), smutynose (NH), stoudts (PA), abita (NM) brooklyn brewery (NY) slyfoxx (PA) rogue (OR) and southern tier (NY) - none of these are gonna be cheap though if you can find them to begin with. check their websites for places to find them, some you can only get from the brewery itself.
i just went to brewfest 2007 at southstreet seaport in nyc last weekend and was lucky to try a bunch from these breweries id never tasted before. lookin forward to brewtopia next month in nyc which should be sick too.

You seem to know your shit man... Good job !
thanks man. ive been gettin into the whole microbrew scene over the past 2 years and havent been able to go back to drinking generic beers since.
its a fun learning experience, even though expensive at times, especially since a lot of the beers are so different from each other (and you get pretty drunk along the way...) the hard part is tryin to keep it as a hobby and not turn into a lush.
if you live close enough to NYC or other areas where they hold microbrew festivals definitely check them out. its a great way to open your eyes to the immense amount of beers and breweries out there you've probably never heard of before. i find a new favorite every time i go to one.

a case is expensive but well worth.i love it all.
damn kid - a case?? you must pay out the ass for that. a 6er or ruination runs bout $20 at the distributer in my area. a couple stop and shop's near me actually had 22's for $5 a piece (typically theyre $8-9 by me) and i bought the entire shelf they had. unfortunitly ive only got one left :(

Well, I live in Hong Kong, so I guess it will be hard for me... I'm French though, so I was able to enjoy lots of Belgian and German beer before I came here, so it's OK...

stone IPA is good but the stone ruination IPA is the best. arrogant bastadard is good too and it comes in a few different styles particularly oak'd and the double bastard. the stone russian imperial stout is nice when you want something darker. personally i dig IPA's a lot especially the imperial IPA's round 10% abv. or so. if you want something really nuts go for dogfish head 120 minute IPA - it's 20% alcohol!
other US based microbreweries id suggest are blue point (NY), ithaca brewing (NY), mcsorely's ale (NY), captain lawrence brewing (NY), dogfish head (DE), smutynose (NH), stoudts (PA), abita (NM) brooklyn brewery (NY) slyfoxx (PA) rogue (OR) and southern tier (NY) - none of these are gonna be cheap though if you can find them to begin with. check their websites for places to find them, some you can only get from the brewery itself.
i just went to brewfest 2007 at southstreet seaport in nyc last weekend and was lucky to try a bunch from these breweries id never tasted before. lookin forward to brewtopia next month in nyc which should be sick too.
ive been recommended rogue and dogfishhead plenty of times by my friends... rogue dead guy. is supposed to be an incredibly brew. i have stomach acid problems though. so i like a good strong beer. but nothing that is heavy on my tummy
im gonna have to try that dogfishhead 20%
thanks for all those recommendations
Dead Guy is alright.
Also, I prefer Arrogant Bastard over Stone IPA
i just picked up rogue dead guy. great stuff. very easy to drink. and is powerful
ok... you guys are my heros. i'm so glad i found this forum.
a lot of you really know what you're talking about. i appreciate good beer discussion, since everyone i know calls me a beer snob.
i make distinctions between boozin' beers and drinking beers... the greatest boozing beer is dos equis. dos equis amber is my favorite, but any dos equis will do. it's not expensive, it goes down easy, and it'll get you drunk without making you poor... not sure how easy it is to find outside of the mexico-bordering-states, though... it might just be a treat for us texas-and-west folks at mexican restaurants, but it's awesome.
but to comment on the beers you guys are talking about:
newcastle is the shit. it's one of my favorites. high on the list. i've gotten ripped on newcastle many times, at buffalo wild wings, watching dallas stars hockey with some friends.
killians is awesome, but i liked it a lot more when i started getting into beer, than i do now... it's still good, but it's not the savior i once thought it was. i've had a few other reds that i think have a deeper flavor, and now i can't help but compare killians to those.
my favorite "snob beers" are totally worth the price, if you like a good high-quality so-snobby-you're-a-nerd-for-drinking-it beer...
this category has stuff like kostritzer, which is a german black lager. if you can find it, buy it. it's like a liquid hershey bar, with a little bit of a bready undertone, and it's my all-time favorite. it's not difficult to find in my south dallas suburbs at all, but people from out of town seem to have never heard of it when i mention it to them. track some down. you'll enjoy it.
also, chimay makes some pretty kick ass beers, too... but they're expensive. if you can find some chimay blue for cheap, buy a case of it and just keep it in the fridge. it's one of the few beers that doesn't have a real "drink me buy" date. if you buy some sam adams, and keep in your fridge for a year, it'll taste like shit... chimay blue gets better with age, like a wine. it's godly, but expensive. basically, i bet cases of chimay blue for birthday presents, because people know how much i covet the shit, even though i'm too poor to drink it regularly.
but the best beer to answer the purpose of this thread, is samuel adams. find a costco. costco regularly sells cases of sam adams for $20, BUY ONE GET ONE FREE... i got a case of boston lager, and a case of summer ale a few months back for $20 total. and for the non-americans who have never had a good american beer, you're missing out on sam adams. it's a REAL beer, and it's fucking delicious... and comes in a million styles.
i forgot to mention something else...
buy dopplebocks, if you really want to get drunk.
it may cost you an extra dollar for the six pack, but considering many of them come in ABV% over 10, it's worth it for the sheer purpose of getting drunk.
but that said, it's still good, real, rich, delicious beer... grab some paulaner salvator, or spaten optimator... you'll usually find a lot of it around late fall.
ive been paying about 40 dollars for a case of beer. and i think its time for me to calm down
im gonna start getting sierra nevada and newcastle. and once and a while switch it up and get something like StoneIPA

lmfao!!!
i drank alot of Carlsberg tonight.
im wasted.
the more i drink it i think sierra nevada pale ale is one of the best fall back beers when a supermarket doesnt have anything unique. grabbed that and a 6 of saranac octoberfest too which is alright, but not spectacular. i will say i do like it better than sam addams octoberfest and it has a nice malt taste to it. could stand to be more bitter though.
luckily ive got one of these sittin the the fridge waiting for me to make love to it tomorrow.

i think that shit was available during the weeks counting down to the release of the feature film presentation. (here in Babylon (U>S> but I in I live for Selassie)
the stores here named "7-11" had promotional sales ( Krusty-0's, SLURPEEZ, RadioActiveMan coms., D0h-nuts, and every store had a Afgahn in it to watch every move you make if you "fit the profile" nnd a baby Afghan with a MossBerg Pump).
ohh yea, it was nasty piss water American beer like it looks on the cartoon.
anybody had any good octoberfest's since the season got underway?
just got done drinking my first growler of blue point octoberfest of the season. im guessing people outside of the ny area might be unfamiliar with blue point but the brewery is close to where i grew up on long island and ive been there a lot.
it's got a nice malt flavor and a strong smokey taste which a lot of their beers have. i also tried saranac octoberfest recently (another ny brewery) which was also pretty good but it lacked the smokey/aged flavor i like.
their toasted is the most popular, tastes like classy budweiser to me, but they've got about 20 brews and their ipa, double ipa, double blonde, and oatmeal stout are amazing.
their website is kinda cool and shows all their different shit, www.bluepointbrewery.com
its really nice to see alot of you respect beer. and buy some brew loaded with hops and top notch barleys
im drinking sierra nevada as we speak. from the bottle. even though i have myself a brand new beautiful frost cold 49ers mug. just the way i say it makes me wanna go use it. but im too drunk to do that right now. i just got home and i am straight up chillin on some funyons. and soon to be some yellow gatorade after the rest of this last beer for the night
drinking blue moon harvest moon at the moment, but i drank two 22's of stone arrogant bastard earlier along with a couple saranac octoberfests.
ive been getting into the fall selections recently but i think my favorite of the season has definitely been smutty nose pumpkin ale. its spicy, smooth, tastes like pumpkins, and is fucking delicious.
im goin back to Binghamton (upstate ny) where i went to college and one of the bars in the area specializes in microbrews which im definitely going to take advantage of. ill come back with a full report at the end of the weekend.
blue moon harvest moon. would be great with thanksgiving dinner
sierra nevada is definitely going to be my brew of choice for quite some time. its such a great pale ale. and at a great price for its quality 30$ for a case.

yea its an even better beer.
i visited ithaca brewing company in upstate new york this past weekend and it was an awesome time. got to drink a lot of their brews that havent made it down to the area i live in and a few specialty one-off releases.
they had a nice ipa, double ipa and apricot wheat. try it if you run into any of their stuff. went to a couple wineries which the area is known for too but the brewery was the best hands down.
The harvest moon pumpkin beer is pretty good. the beer for all seasons is still guiness for me.
currently drinking an ice cold pint of Newcastle.
bliss.
You learn to appreciate cheap beer when you're dirt poor
im drinking an ice cold mug of Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale
this beer is simply incredible.. 55$ a case though. so a bit pricey
oaked is good. i supermarket by me just restocked on ruination so i grabbed a bunch for cheap.

same as foreign beers, hops, malt, water. the big manufacturers (budweiser, coors, miller) taste like water but we do have some excellent microbrews and Sam Adams is a major brewer with really really good beers
i actually like budweiser it doesnt taste any weak to me like heiniken.
could there be a difference?
budweiser>heiniken but budweiser still =shit in my book, but thats just me....ill drink if i have to but id rather have something with flavor some favorites
sam adams-all varieties
anchor steam
great lakes brewing company-makers of fine brew
guiness
just to name a few

Lithuanian beer > all
about a week ago i picked up a case of sierra nevadas most recent release which is there early spring beer.. its not bad.. but the companys best seasonal is the harvest ale...
im not sure what type of beer i want to pick up next time at the distributor

Oh god man. Blue moon with an orange is like the girlest beer choice ever. That might even been a step below wine coolers.
I dont really know why im talking shit though. Im just psyched that when we are wating for a flight back to okinawa from Kyrjistan (or some stan spelled something like that) I will be able to drink a whole two beers a night of some nasty russian beer. MMMMM cant wait.

well the beer itself is one of the worst I have ever tasted. Its like they took a super light (gay) beer and added sugar and cum to it. BLAH. The orange is just - style points. The beer itself does the real damage.
But no there is a big military air port called manas. We are not allowed to leave the base. But they have a little MWR (moral welfare recreation) room where each night you can get two beers. They have a couple normal beers. But the Russian beers are slightly larger. So that's a no brainier.

haven't posted in awhile but i've run into my fair share of brews recently.

turbodog (abita)
magic hat sampler with HI.P.A, Circus, Odd Notion
arrogant bastard
hoegaarden
rare vos (ommegang)
nut brown (ithaca)
Saranac sampler pack
i've had most of those before but the 2 new ones i liked the best were the turbodog and the HI.P.A.
some of the brews i had last month that stood out was a buffalo bock at heartland brewery in nyc and a specialty release called golden delicious, a belgian aged in apple brandy barrels, from my local brewery captain lawrence.
dude sweet turbodog rulz!
OMGZ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Hells yes. The Cherry Wheat is delicious. It's not the kind of beer you drink and get drunk off of though. It's one where you have 2 or 3 while you're BBQ-ing some steaks and hamburgers on a nice day. It has sort of a sweet cherry (obviously) flavor that's meant to be enjoyed and it goes well with food.
I like the Winter Ale also. I've never tried the original, and I absolutely despise the Octoberfest, But that's just me.
Has anyone ever had Magner's Irish Cider? I love it and would definitely recommend it. If you can get you hands on it, get it in a pint glass with some ice. I know that sounds weird to have beer on ice but it's better that way. Plus it's not really like a beer, it's like a sparkling cider with alcohol. Good stuff.
Its been a while. But I remember liking the octoberfest
ive come to the conclusion that i cant drink beer anymore :'( everytime i do, i wake up in the middle of the night (well after drinking it) and get sick. it doesnt matter if ive had 2 or 20 (yes this happend after 2 beers once)

from what i see
a guy i use to work with called cherry wheat beers "desert beers".
i've never been a huge fan although i do like an occasional blue point blueberry or ithaca apricot ale. purple haze from abita has a great raspberry flavor but i can't drink more than one.

They are probably moving to china for cheaper labor just like everyone else. The fucking bastards.
I will be back in okinawa in about 10 days. Where my beer choices are limited to about budweiser, miller light, and a japanese beer called oreon. Which pretty much taste like budweiser. What do you guys think. Should I just stick with vodka and not spoil my first beer in forever on the cheap nasty shit. Or should I just suck it up and down the piss?
I say... down the piss. As most beer tastes like piss anyway. ;)

Did they give any reason why? I've heard that before and maybe it was from you saying it once before but I'm just curious. Is there some sort of old myth that goes along with it. It's baffling to me...I <3 beer in green bottles.
i absolutely hate beer in green bottles
its always very acidic and makes my stomach upset
a great example of what i mean. is becks.. green bottle. really really acidic
the only beer i like in a green bottle is called yuengling. its brewed a few towns over from where i live
That's too bad. :(

I'm from NY, and yeah we definitely have Yuengling here, it's distributed up and down the entire East Coast From NY to FLA.
I do like the fruit wheat beers especially in the Spring/Summer so Iusually stick to Blue Moon, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat and Magic Hat #9 when I'm in the mood for those types.

Since this is the beer thread I will give you this advice. You can count on about 200 calories per light beer. and anywhere from 250 - 400 per regular beer. And around 90 calories per shot of 100 proof liqueur. Plus alcohol lowers your testosterone for 24 hours. I have really, really cut out the drinking since I have started working out more serious.
i haven't drank anything in quite some time
Neither have I. I bought a bottle of some of this horrible shit called Blue Moon. Had 1 of em and threw the rest away, disgusting stuff. Anyone have a recommendation on what I should try next?
really..blue moon is suppose to be the cheaper version of a hefe..which is good german wheat beer...i dunno..anything is better than milwaukee's best ice..worst taste known to man but its stupidly cheap and makes you even stupider
I am on a serious Session kick. I was trying to find a picture because they come in those cute little stubby bottles. Yummy stuff.
And Blue Moon isn't that bad.
I had an Arrogant Bastard the other day. I love that shit.

I have an Arrogant Bastard beer glass in my kitchen.

I'm tired of having to sneak beer into my dorm room. School is dumb.
My barracks were dry before I left. I guess they realized that was a horrible idea and so upon arrival back to okinawa I was very pleased to see that they are now wet. Of course as I stated earlier, I have really cut down on the drinking to maybe only once or twice a month. So I haven't really gotten a chance to take advantage of the wet barracks yet. But its still nice to know that I could.

funny you say that. Because as an e-3 or below you are only allowed to have a 6 pack in your room. And you are only allowed to purchase one 6 pack, or a bottle of wine at a time. But for some reason a box of wine is equivalent to a bottle in their eyes. So everyone just started buying boxes of wine. Kind of makes me laugh.
Maybe they thought the boxed wine was so bad that they just said fuck it and let you do it.

I have some cheap wine that I bought the other day. Concord stuff...tastes really sweet and funky but after 1 glass I felt buzzed. Wine isn't really my style, my friend told me to get it eh....I prefer beer and booze.
I drink anything really, every day. my whole life seems to revolve around getting drunk which kind of sucks, seems to be the way to do it round here in leeds.
i'm totally out of money at the moment so since i can't afford any, i'll share some of my favourite drinks with you lot:
nice Swedish cider, pear is the only decent flavour though, gets a bit too sweet after 2 bottles
(http://www.thedrinkshop.com/images/products/main/259/259.jpg)
absolutely the best rum i've tasted. Usually me and my friend do one of these in with coke (not the drug) before we go out, try it
(http://img.alibaba.com/photo/10870695/Double_Dutch_Premium_Beer.jpg)
I bet none of you have tried this, I've only ever found it in a few shops near my house. £3 (about $1.50) for 4 cans at 5 % alc. Pretty good if you're a student bum like me. (tastes a bit shit, does the job)
Tastes amazing. Possibly the best beer i've ever had, even though it's a bit pricey in bars.
this one is a fucking beauty, good strength (over 5%) and only 55p (22 cents) per bottle (fucking legend). alfa's are literally the shit.

anyone here who's sayin they don't like beer just isn't drinking the right beer.
as i type im drinking legacy brewing's hoptimus prime double IPA (9%) and it's fantastic. i got a growler from my local distributor and it's just like i remembered it. nice mix of bitter and fruity hops flavor with a solid body and a faint smoky aftertaste on the tongue.
it's been an IPA weekend. other beers i drank this weekend:
6er of smuttynose IPA
6er of stone IPA
blue point double blonde
six point bengali tiger IPA
stone 11th anniversary BPA (black ipa)
and a few pabst
one of the better drinking weekends ive had in awhile. next weekend is the captain lawrence 2nd anniversary pig bbq which i plan on enjoying to the fullest. they're a fantastic new brewery in westchester, ny which is a mile away from where i use to live. they're getting so popular they having trouble filling keg orders. i'll post a full report after.
stone ipa is king supreme of IPA

and for me i like drinking a little beer, and i also like drinking a shit ton of beer. i cant get shitfaced too often but it occasionally holds it's place in my weekend routines.
im usually drinking a couple 6 packs a week. ive been working on a 6er of stone ipa and a 12 of pabst this past week. i've got an anniversary pig roast at a local brewery close to where i live on sat which should be awesome.

Beer is as diverse as wine, especially these days with all the new brewing techniques.
For example a lot of my female friends who otherwise hate beer have been knocking this back lately:

if you think all beer taste the same. You need to try some new beers sinner. There have been a lot of good suggestions in this thread ( some bad ) but yeah. go out and buy a nice beer and give it a go. Beer is sort of an acquired taste though. I only liked light beers at first (when I was like 15) then I started working with this dude that was big on dark beers and he always bought them for us while we were working, so of course I drank what I could get. At first it tasted like shit. But after a while I could no longer go back to the light stuff.

I was actually reading this article on how beer has actually found its way into high society. As in if there is a really nice banquet or restaurant or whatever where whine was the traditional beverage. Now it is becoming more and more acceptable to have a nice beer instead of a wine. They even countered the whole white wine = light meat, red wine = dark meat, with some sort of formula for what beers to drink with what dishes.
Yeah I've seen a bit of that and most restaurants here have clicked on to having a decent beer selection where as 10 years ago they would have 3-4 choices max.Now it's more like 10-15.
yeah. most restraunts around here are the same way
and the restraunts with really good selections. usually get the best business

Yeah, you're not gonna get that Tricerahops considering it's brewed in Oregon.

beer with apricot?
isnt that a contradictory, given that beer only consits of water, malt and hops?
when we drink a beer with citrone flavour, we call it radler or potsdamer, but not "beer" anymore
oh i would still definitely call it beer and it's the bee's knees

From what I understand the difference has to do with the mixture percentage of beer and "soda", and the alcohol content.
I went to a bar for the first time last night, and I actually discovered a beer I actually like--Stella Artois. I'm not a beer connoisseur, so I couldn't tell you what I liked about it. It just tasted good.
i love the Stella. good first choice!
Stella is pretty good for a lager.
I enjoy Guinness.
if you read any of this thread's history, you know i'm a major fan of guinness as well :)
and actually guinness is even better in a carbomb, just too bad i normally only drink those around st. patty's
Car bombs are pretty tasty,So are Black & tan. yum
I am angry at my body. Nowadays whenever I drink beer, I get instant headaches and hangovers in about 3-4 hours from drinking the beer. And shit. I LOVE BEER. So not fair.
Fuck, I hate Guiness but carbombs are the fucking shit.
I had three last St. Paddy's...then I drank a bunch of Jameson and walked home for 3 hours in 40something degree weather.
Bad times.
That does sound like a bad time,Im sorry D:
Meh. I had fun up until the busses stopped running. And my hangover.
Yea..Hang overs are never fun.

Yeah, it was good. A little bit high on the price, but I'd say it's definitely worth trying.
How much was it? I mean, I'm not too worried about price because my favorite beer is fucking 5.50 for a pint.
Shit, one normal bottle was 7$, so a six (or four) pack would be nearly twenty I'd assume. It was 9% per volume so I'm assuming that has something to do with how they price it.
Ho ho HO! I want that thing now.
Finally tried the Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron tonight after reading articles about it. 12% abv, aged in Palo Santo wooden tanks. This beer is incredible. If you have the chance, try it.

will do. i've actually seen it in a bar near me, but it was like $9. so when i'll get it the next time i feel like spending the extra cash at the bars.
I had Czech beer for the first time last week. It was pretty damn good. I just don't remember what it was called.
I'm in Germany and they wont let me drink. Not even one beer :(

That's not beer. GTFO mah thread, bitch.
I've been on a massive IPA kick these past several months and I've been trying all kinds of shit. If you like a good IPA and haven't had either of these, drop everything and go to the store and pick them both up. They're pretty easy to find on the west coast, but if you're a bit far, you could probably find them at a specialty beer store.
Tricerahops - Unbelievably flavorful with all kinds of insane undertones. This is my favorite beer right now. All around good.
C-Note - Brutally hoppy and bitter. If the store I go to is out of the Tricerahops, (which it is quite often because I chug that shit) I get one of these.
Also, I've been going to this AWESOME bar called Brouwer's which has 64 beers on tap at all times, about 1/3 of which are Belgian imports. Try something new every time I go. Since I've been going, I've had I think 4 beers from Avery based in Colorado and FUCK ME they were all unbelievable. My plans for tomorrow include picking up a fuckload of their beers from the fancypants beer store near me. Also, sour beers are repulsive. And I have never been all that impressed with the Belgians I've had, but I'm sure they've lost quite a bit of their appeal in the shipping process. Really want to go to Belgium and check out beers that dudes brew in their back yards and shit like that.
after dabbling with brewing our own mead (variations of flavors of honey wine), a couple of friends and I have decided to try out brewing our own beer. we just bought a $160 6-gallon pot, and have a 6 gallon bucket for fermenting. Today we're gonna actually do all the brewing for our first porter. Should be ready in a few weeks.
Yeah dude, my dad and my neighbor have that stuff and they buy the recipe kits or whatever all of the time. Apparently sometimes they fuck it up, but I guess they've gotten better at it recently. And some of that shit is delicious, they brewed some of the darkest and most delicious stouts I've had, but I'm more of a lager guy, and they did an australian lager that was the shit. I've only done it with them once or twice, but they have a great time doin it.
yeah man it was fucking sweet making it. the place just reeked of awesomeness afterward. just too bad we gotta wait a few weeks for the fermentation and then bottle it. i just can't wait to taste it.
Still the best

Drank Lapin Kulta in a restaurant last night. It was really good! I never had a Finnish beer before.
Unfortunately it is way too expensive,I found it for 1,89€ per bottle on some beer import website. Otherwise I'd definitely order a case.

I usually drink a fairly cheap western canadian beer called BREWHOUSE
I got drunk off Vodka tonight. But I'm posting in this thread because I started the night with two options. Bud light lime, or Straight Smirnoff vodka with no chaser (unless I wanted to use coffee). So, I started with Bud Light Lime. After one beer, I quickly proceded to drinking 3/4 of a 1/5 of vodka without any chaser at all. And I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than than one 12 oz Bud Light Lime.
So FU Bud Light Lime. Leave Beer.....and Fruit.....up to the professionals.
I blame your lack of options. Both of those choices are fucking gross, like choosing between fruity piss and rubbing alcohol + body odor.

My least favorite of finnish beers. I call it The Reindeer's Piss. Though it is good like every beer is, I do prefer almost any other finnish brand.
Too bad I wouldn't know. It tasted like a Pilsner type of beer, which I enjoy a lot.
Well, it's the only finnish brand I've seen outside of Scandinavia...but if you see this logo, I do recommend this one.

Yeah I think it's the best Canadian Beer. Sleeman, Molson EX are good, so is Steam Whistle if you've never tried it.
Worst Canadian Beer: Labatt Blue
mill st. brewery stock ale is my favorite canadian beer but it's not a classic. keith's is a staple as a nova scotian and olands is a lesser known staple.
do Canadians really not like Labatt's? I've heard several people now say that it's shit beer. I really don't have anything against it, but Moosehead probably is my favorite beer from Canada.
I will look out for Steam Whistle though.

Labatts 50, Genuine Lager, Lakeport (not great but dirt cheap and better than blue)

I finally started homebrewing back in June. I'm actually bottling an autumn seasonal today, my third batch so far, the first being a red ale, second an IPA. The empty bottles are in boiling water to be sanitized as I type this.

As of now the red ale is named Dry Spell Red Ale as it was brewed with jalapenos and habaneros, the IPA is named Get Lei'd IPA as it was brewed with pineapple, but I'm not sure about the seasonal I just bottled. It was brewed with pumpkin, brown sugar, vanilla and toasted pecans. I'm thinking maybe Slice of the Pie Ale. Next I'm hoping to brew a mint chocolate stout for the Christmas/winter season.
Cool names man. Is your seasonal an Oktoberfest?

Yummy.
come here looking for a beer and well the choice is overwhelming, can we whittle it down, separate the wheat from the chaff, make some sort of vote? :o
Well whats your favorite type of beer? Pilsner, Lager, Export, Guiness / Irish beers, wheat beers, something I forgot to mention?
Also are imported beers affordable in your country?
Well i'm from England, the only beers i don't really drink are pale (blonde) like Leffe and not massively keen on bitter. I think we can get imports with ease in terms of euro beers but when it comes to american beer it's pretty much cools and bud. I guess knowing some certified alternative american beers would be great to make it worth the extra cash to import.
don't know much about american beers.
There are lots of small breweries in Germany, too, making beers with a wide variety and I assume thats the case in many countries.
When theres a nice offer in the beverage market I still occasionally go for big brands like Beck's, Veltins, Budweiser ( the Czech beer, not the American ) or Polish beers like Zywiec or Tyskie but I try to buy beers from smaller breweries as often as possible.
bought a crate of this beer a couple days ago, Weltenburger Anno 1050

german and british beers are the worst
That's a pretty ridiculous claim, man. There's good and bad from everywhere.
but when a man is right, he is right. We got about 1300 breweries in the country, and all of them produce piss ! Great user this Penisck, instead of trolling he contributes nicely to discussions.

The Anno 1050 is a beer I can definitely recommend. Very nice Märzen type of beer, malty and tastes like a stronger lager.
i tried asahi for the first time a week ago and it's delicious.

I live in the michgan areas of murica and we have a fuck ton of craft breweries in the area like founders, bells, dark horse, etc etc. Founders makes some of my favorite beers, like the dirty bastard, their porter, and their breakfast stout. Havent gotten my hands on their KBS yet, but I'll be fixing that this march. They make some pretty tasty IPAs but im more for the stout/darker beers
blue beer.. now I have seen everything.
