Ok, so you're able to produce a tribute album for the Deftones with various bands covering their songs. Who would you have cover what songs?
Will Haven - WGTB
Poison The Well - Rats
Swift - Around The Fur
Maura Davis and Jonah - Be Quiet and Drive
Tool - Root
Dredg - Digital Bath
RATM - 7 Words
30STM - Hole In The Earth
Glassjaw - Korea
Bjork - Anniversary
i dont want anybody covering deftones songs...
That's an awesome list!
I agree, that's a bloody good list. Cool idea too.
I just want Poison the Well to do the entire cd. And add some more punk to the songs.
Quote from: rainnyx4 on Jun 23, 2007, 12:59 AM
Bjork - Anniversary
oh yeah, that would be good
pj harvey - rxqueen
The cure - Minerva
So far, I'm liking the setlists.
Will Haven covering WGTB is just awesome.
Rage Against the Machine is so perfect for "7 Words". However, Tool for "Root"? I'd probably hate that.
I want to see Thom Yorke cover "Beware" with his piano.
Thrice - Xerces
Opeth - Change
Fightstar have done My Own Summer. Great.
(Say Hello To Sunshine era) Finch - Anything from Around The Fur or Adrenaline
awesome idea!!! and awesome setlist-except tool w/ root..

at first serj should perform the song wit hthe deftones. still cant wait for this to happen.
Everyone thinks my selection for Tool is weird and I think I know why. You're imagining a literal cover. I see Tool maybe slowing it down and making it this really drawn out and epic song. Kind of like what they did with Pushit.
30 seconds to mars? Fuck that...
if 30 seconds to mars did hole in the earth it most definately would have been a fucking SMASH hit!! it would be everywhere and all over pop radio no doubt.

1. The Mars Volta - "Mascara" extended for ten minutes with a half hour of ambiance both before and after the actual song.
2. The Mars Volta - Seamlessly transitioned ten minutes of silence.
Best tribute album ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would put Tori Amos instead Fiona..;)

Why do I get the feeling that I got -2 karma merely for this comment alone? If that is the reason, then let me just state for the record that I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge TMV fan but I know how to make light of even things that I like.
I know this is a fantasy tribute CD, but lets get realistic-tool, nin, radiohead, smashing pumpkins - they'll NEVER tribute deftones because they all grew up together, and are bigger bands. it would be beautiful, but wont happen.
i'd rather put together a list of possible tributes, stuff that could actually happen...
and here goes:
poison the well - elite (I honestly think a PTW cover would be better than the original)
glassjaw - engine no9
sage francis - bored
mars volta - fireal
mewithoutyou - nosebleed
mastadon - korea
converge - passanger
team sleep - teenager
quicksand - hole in the earth
mindless self indulgence - pink cellphone
dredg - be quiet and drive (far away) <--- imagine it
thrice - minerva or digital bath
rise against - one weak
norma jean - hexagram
shiny toy guns - lucky you
explosions in the sky - fist
pelican - U R B R U LEFT UP DOWN LEFT UP RIGHT CTRLALTDEL
weird list. i won't love to hear it

beastie boys - back to school
bjork - anniversary of an uninteresting event
pinback - teenager
a few i'd like to hear.
I can't believe how dumb Deftones fans have become - could you honestly not get the joke involved with adding team sleep and quicksand to the list?
Since I can't recall seeing any other posts from you, I'm not sure what your level of understanding is between the whole Team Sleep and Deftones situation other than I'm sure you know they share one common member but you still MAY not be aware that "Teenager" is actually a Team Sleep session song that was thrown on to White Pony. Now that I see your post count, I'm going to assume you know that. Sorry, I really CAN believe that someone would be that dense and I did think you could be that someone when I posted that but I don't now.

deftones covers don't work....
I don't like the idea of this.
I don't think Deftones songs should be covered - noone is going to be able to pull it off well.
Probably the only decent Deftones cover I've heard is Bad Rabbit's cover of Sextape.
I agree. There are very few bands in which you do not cover - Deftones being one of them.
I like some of the lists so far. I'm not much on Messhugah, but their rendition of WGTB would probably be epic.
Here's what I'm thinking...
Glassjaw - Prince (I imagine Daryl having a blast with the vocal dynamics this song has)
Weezer - Like Linus (Weird one, obscure, but worth it and Weezer friendly IMO lol)
the Dillinger Escape Plan - Elite (They'd slaughter villages with this cover)
Broadcast - Teenager (this chick has that droney voice required for this number)
Radiohead - Minerva (I think they'd step this song up a notch)
the Cure - Change (Mr. Smith would SLAY the vocals)
Norma Jean - Around the Fur
I think RATM wouldn't do Engine #9 any justice... sure Zach raps but I don't like his vocal tone. It's unique but really only works on RATM stuff. So I choose...
Hed PE (old line up) - Engine #9. MCUD just destroys on their old shit.
Isis - Konami Code
All I can think of so far. I'd prefer if each band does their own take, expand on the ideas, not a 100% carbon copy. I can't stand that.
"When Girls Telephone Boys"-Glassjaw (Perfect for this, with that thick bassline they could reinvent EVEN thicker and Daryl's screams, its a match)
"Fireal"-Radiohead
"Knife Prty"-At the Drive In (if they were still around :P)
"Lucky You"-Aphex Twin
"Pink Maggit"-Bjork
"Lhabia"-Killing Joke
"Back to School"-Naughty By Nature (I wonder what this would sound like with more rap and less metal)
"Cherry Waves"-Die!Die!Die!
"Hexagram"-Faith No More
"Riviere"-Modest Mouse (I can almost hear a bit of them in "Riviere")
"Headup"-One Day As a Lion
"Battle Axe"-Failure
"Mein"-Some hobo (could probably be better than the original :D)
