As far as the songs on Saturday Night Wrist go, this seems really underrated! It's actually the only one that really stood out to me after my first listen of the album today, I love it. What does everyone else think of it?
I love it too, especially when he goes ''I'll be waving'' and as he sings that some weird noise in the background from Frank goes off and it just sounds so fuckin sweet.
i think it's badass, it's up there on my top 5 favorite tracks on the album. however, when i asked people what their top 5 were, xerces was not a crowd favorite. alot of people say its boring and uninspirational...but what do they know, right?

Yeah it's just really atmospheric. Especially when the chorus comes in. This is a damn sexy album... ;D
Haha the Mortal Kombat dude in your av is moving in time to Pink Cellphone.

Boring?! Uninspirational?! Xerces is a total trip, the music is fucking awesome and Chino's voice is just amazing!! I can imagine him singing it to me hehe, aw damn. :(

Haha awesome! Yeah Xerces has turned into a great song, especially if you listened to the demo version alot before hand.
That song was amazing without lyrics and now with lyrics its more amazing I completely love this song.

I didn't hear any of the demos, I'm just downloading them now actually.
When the instrumental version appeared online I immediatly got the idea this was written by Team Sleep but ending up on a Deftones record, like Teenager originally was a Team Sleep track too. And then I read the Kerrang! interview in which Chino indeed says it was written by him and Rick Verrett from Team Sleep. You just hear their style. At least, I do, I adore Team Sleep. It's a great, great track.
Xerces is my least liked track on SNW. I feel that it's bland/boring and incredibly cheesy. I can honestly say I'd like this song ten times more if it were released on a Team Sleep record.
I don't understand why you're letting something as insignificant as which band it's released by, affect how much you like the song. The same thing happened with Lucky You, even though it's an amazing song (one of the songs that got me into Deftones) everyone seems to have a 'grudge' against it because it's Team Sleep-ish. So what?
And I didn't get the Team Sleep vibe from Xerces at all!
Wasn't written by Chino and Rick Verrett (Team Sleep bassist)?
http://www.deftonesworld.com/interview-chino-kerrang-2006.htm (http://www.deftonesworld.com/interview-chino-kerrang-2006.htm)
it is written by Chino and Rick Verrett from Team Sleep. Check what Chino sais about the song with the weird key-thing (~) title. That is Xerces.
Xerces is a Team Sleep song as far as I'm concerned, and that's not a good thing. There's a reason the bands have different names, and that's because they are two different bands. I don't want one bleeding into the other.
What pisses me off about Xerces so much is that there could've been a purely Deftones written song in its place that was just as, if not more, melodic and pretty as Xerces is.
Cherry Waves is so good, it kinda makes Xerces suck.
I like Xerces. I think it's a nice song. I just don't like it on SNW.
QuoteAnd I didn't get the Team Sleep vibe from Xerces at all!
I have to admit with Chinos vocals it know fits (to me) well on the SNW record and makes it less Team Sleep-like. But instrumentally with the piano stuff it really is like it. Ofcourse it are Abe's drumparts, considering that Team Sleep drummer has a different style and sound.
By the way, Pink Cellphone is very much like Team Sleep's track 'King Diamond'. Also this electronic beat with Chino scatting parts and a girl singing stuff. Really, SNW is Team Sleep inspired, it has this spacey/ambient feel to it.

well said.
well obviously 'glassdomino' know understands why that tracks sounds so werid to him on the record: its not as Deftones as the other ones.
I remember ones noticing Teenager to be a popular worst-Deftones-track on a topic here. It's also a Team Sleep song, originally. So maybe the band should think real good before putting another TS song on their record. (Not that I care, I like Teenager and Xerces).
lucky you is the only song on all four of their albums (i havn't heard snw yet) that i skip. I absolutely love teenager, I think the vocal melody on that song is one of the most beautiful melodies that chino has ever written, and I don't really care if they put ts stuff on deftones, but i just really dont like lucky you

I understand this, and it is not the first time that the two have sort of fused together (Teenager).
I'll just stick to what I said earlier, "I like Xerces. I think it's a nice song. I just don't like it on SNW."
xerces owns :D
Xerces is a great song, it may sound teamsleepish but it actually feels like a deftones track..i really like the diversity within in this record. Its way more diverse than White Pony.
i really like it without the lyrics on, the music would make a great soundtrack

+1
if only they didn't shorten that anthem like riff near the end of the song :(
This song is definitely one of my favourite songs on the album, everything about it screams 'epic'. I mean the mention of 'universe', 'heaven', 'waving goodbye', total epic lyrics, and the music is pretty vast as well, with lots of atmosphere! Love it!
love it
This is probitly my favorite song of this record among with riviƩre.This is a song that makes me cry and makes me think about things I normaly dont really think about.
Imagine a film with this as a end song (during the the last scene and the credits).
That would be great to me.
It is a beautiful song. Iam near the point if crying everytime I hear it.
this song is beyond beautiful.
my favorite track on the record and one of the greatest songs ive heard in while.
anyone know what xerces means ?

now that's awesome
its a cool song. fits very nicely on the cd.
one of my favorites, its gorgeous.
Everyone else is saying Team Sleep, but it reminds me a lot of Tinfed, which also featured Rick
i run 5 miles just abt every day and i have that song on my i-pod play list,( so i can set my goal time)-in order to finish with that song. it gets me so pumped and i run like hell-as if i were sprinting away from everything i know!(good feeling) also im studying film and i would totally use this if i ever make a movie-grEaT soundtrack shit... only one boggle-i wish it were a little longer-maybe in the begining slap a half of the chorus in there- then go in wit the second verse idunno. 9/10
It is a perfect song even more when you know what is Xerces.
Xerces: The Xerces Blue butterfly (Glaucopsyche xerces) is an extinct species of butterfly. The species lived in coastal sand dunes of the San Francisco Bay area. The Xerces butterfly is the first American butterfly species to become extinct as a result of loss of habitat caused by urban development. The last Xerces Blue was seen in March, 1943 in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
thanks a lot for this information and you're right it's more perfect when we know what Xerces is!
when I heard the first version (the instrumental one) I found it perfect!
And when I heard the SWN version for the first time I've almost cried,it's so beautiful with the lyrics,I couldn't imagine it otherwise, this song is perfect!! :)
well... xerces for me... is beautiful... i remember the first time, I was going through some problems with this girl, and when I heard the song, suddenly I just cried of nowhere... amazing...
Xerces is Team Sleepish in the sence that Rick Everett did the piano stylings on it
but with Teenager and shit, that was always Crookone
this song definitley has team sleep in it's heart though
the lyrics about escaping from the earth and shit is like
the team sleep escape plan from the deftones
I just love the lyrics and like I read it is very good when u r in troubles with ur girl 'cause at least you can remember the good times with this song and forget the problems.
its melodic,beautiful and emotional!
Love this song. Possibly Deftones best soft song ever.
Xerces is my 4th favorite
right after cherry waves, mein, and beware
xerces is great
the ending with the nice slow guitar solo is beautiful
i always thought it meant exorist
like
x- cer- ces!
Just came across this thread, and I have to re-post what I said in a Melanie thread because Xerces deserves it:

All I know is sometimes I really can love some of SNW even though I overall am a little disappointed with it at times. Like for instance my head unit shuffled to Xerces on my iPod in my car just before and I turned it up (I have 2 Rockford 10"s in a ported box/Alpine HU) and not only does it sound sick as fuck but it's hard to believe that such heart-felt vocals and lyrics could come from someone like Chino...it really does affect your emotions. And the music itself in the song is so ridiculously good too, such a perfect match with the singing. I have to give it up for that song really. Sometimes I have to go back and listen to songs that I forget about to remember how well-made they really are.
The song really does hit and affect me just as much as Mascara always does if not more.

...the 4 reasons why snw sucks so incredible bad
It's not Deftones most original piece, but I really love this song. Gives me the Rx feeling. The end is just unbetterable.
They can play this song on my funeral.
Demo version is much better.
its my fav on that album.
I hate how the guys fucked it up gettin down the volume of the final 'solo'... it was just so perfect in the demo version. I bet if you didn't hear the demo version you wouldn't realize there's a solo at the end. (Is there a solo on the album version? or is it just my mind putting the solo part on the final result?)
That's a shit.
Good song, though.

it's the same solo(i think), just kinda drowned out by everything else
I like the demo and the song, but the demo sounds better. ;)
the ending guitar needed to be louder on the album version like the demo

I love Xerces - it's my favourite off SNW along with Kimdracula and Riviere. Was awesome hearing it live last year, too :)
xerces is good shit. like staring through a window millions of miles from earth.

The only songs on SNW that i would say are bad/ not the best
is That U.D,LL Start stop thing .... 4 min instruments ahhh
Combat - They talk for too long (the background noise)
and one other thing. But ^^ Xerces is Great!

haha ur name thing is "your lucky your kinda cute, cute like juicy friut" haha thts from pinkpop!
i know im lame
I haven't seen her around here for a while
Xerces is my second favorite track off the album, very nice.
I kind of have to agree with the premise of this topic. Xerces is a really good song. But it probably is way underrated. Even just with myself. I will usually skip over it, but then every now and then hear it when I just put on deftones and let my i-tunes play out. And im always impressed and wonder why I dont listen to it more when Xerces comes around.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODBYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
i like the bob ezrin version
the guitar solo at the end is beautifll
its so soothing, to the mind and soul.
One of the best songs off SNW, no doubt. Was absolutely mind blowing when I heard it live.
