It's got to be said, 'Diamond Eyes' probably represents the finest vocal performance of Chino Moreno's career to date and the way he leads this track is nothing short of breath-taking.

Sex Tape – A guitar intro that reminds a little of the Smashing Pumpkins (bizarrely). Blissfully chilled-out and a welcome break from the full-on nature of the album thus far, Sex Tape is the Deftones challenging themselves in the realms of elegant song-writing and reaping the benefits incredibly. One of the best tracks on the album and something that could become a career-highlight.

When you think about it, Be Quiet And Drive's guitar is very Pumpkins - especially considering the Pumpkin chord is used XD So it's not that bizarre.

Deftones 'Diamond Eyes' Track-By-Track Preview

In summarizing, when Deftones say this is one of the best albums of their career, they weren't kidding. On first listen, this seems set to become a Deftones classic. A heavier album than Saturday Night Wrist, it has massive influence from both Around The Fur and White Pony. Stunning stuff from the Sacramento alt-metallers.

CMND/CNTRL – An instant Deftones classic. A savage riff bounces like it's 1998 all over again while Chino scats and screams before unleashing another mammoth chorus. This is a straight up banger, begging to be dropped in clubs and will sound epic live.

hahaha i called it first. instead of a trip hop tune i had a feeling it was gonna be A kick ass song

I like "CMND/CTRL" as a title. Seems like the lyrics would be about a power struggle (Command and Control) in a relationship that that Chino can scream his head off about. Think about the title "When Girls Telephone Boys." At face value its kind of humorous but when you actually hear it, you know its pretty serious business. Most of us are pretty aware of Deftones particular sense of humor.

Of course this track will probably be the equivalent of "U,U,D,D,L,R,L,R,A,B, Select, Start" now that I've made that connection and in keeping with the theme of key commands for electronics as song titles.

Yeah. I called it too. lol. Of course I played it safe by getting back on the fence with the second paragraph.

really? i think it's just that one chord that makes it seem so......the open e string with the octave underneath......as a guitar player it's impossible not to notice if familiar with both songs.........also i wonder which one came first?
and don't forget that after both, alot of other people stole that shit fer sure, like Chevelle, and some other random crap i can't remember. (p.s. Chevelle are TERRIBLE imo, like deftones and tool and diarrhea mixed together and filtered thru solidified vomit, god they sucked, thank god that didn't last long)

as far as everlong and BQUAD, it could either be coincidence or inspiration. i know there's been times when i write something and then realize the chords are very similar to something else, usually i will only continue to use those chords if i feel as though the song as a whole has it's own merits and is not just a "ripoff".  i think that both songs stand on their own though i of course prefer BQUAD.

i hear you on that one... i have such high expectations of this album so far, i wanna say it's gonna top white pony.. i mean white pony is always going to be THE album that defines deftones, but i'm sure Diamond Eyes will be the modern equivalent... of the first 3 albums, white pony was the top one, now out of the last 3 albums they've put out, i think Diamond eyes will be the top one... so i'm not going to wait to hear it... i'm gettin the leak as soon as it comes out..
